Loeffler on Fox News: We Are A Nation of the Rule of Law

Highlights:

ON ARMED PROTESTERS BLOCKING STREETS IN ATLANTA: “This is totally unacceptable. We cannot allow mob rule. We are a nation of the rule of law and this is exactly what will happen if we defund the police. And that's exactly what the Democrats want to do. They have a move to defund, to dismantle law enforcement. I have stood strong with law enforcement from day one. I have recently introduced legislation that penalizes state and municipalities that move to defund without a budgetary reason by withholding federal highway safety transportation funds. So I stand strong with law enforcement and we need to bring the JUSTICE Act to the floor. We need to have that debate, our country expects us to do that.”

ON THE DEFUND THE POLICE MOVEMENT: “Well this is exactly what I’ve been warning about with the defund the police movement. It hurts all communities, it hurts everyone in our country when we don't have law and order, when we have mob rule. This is the vision the Democrats have for our country, it's a great example of why we need to move this bill to the floor, why we need to stand strong with strengthening law enforcement, to rooting out bad apples. Everyone wants that, we all agree. And this can’t be politicized. We have got to protect our citizens.”

ON NANCY PELOSI’S COMMENTS ON THE JUSTICE ACT: “Well this is ridiculous, Ed. This is an insult to the effort that we’ve led. I really commend Senator Tim Scott. His efforts have untied our conference behind this bill, the JUSTICE ACT, which provides the tools necessary to improve policing, to give them the tools they need to keep our communities safe. There’s no room for politics here. It's clear that the Democrats want to defund the police, they want to run on a platform that we are refusing to reform. We are at the table, we’re ready to negotiate, we owe that to the American people and we need to stand strong with law enforcement to help keep our communities safe.”

ON ADDITIONAL CORONAVIRUS RELIEF: “Well Ed, first things first. We have put out nearly $3 trillion of funding through the CARES Act and CARES 3.5. I’m certainly open to looking at areas that we might have missed but I’ve also been working with Secretary Mnuchin, Chairman Powell, about how to make sure that the trillion dollars left in the CARES Act, how do we deploy that to the areas that need it most. Many areas that have been hurt like hospitality, they need that lifeline that we can help provide. We need to get people back into jobs. This needs to be a job-led recovery. The economic data, the indicators that we’re seeing are very strong. It’s great to see but we need to continue to see more and then we can continue to make those important decisions.”
