Loeffler Cosponsors Legislation to Repeal the Death Tax

Death Tax Hurts Georgia’s Hardworking Families, Farmers

WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senator Kelly Loeffler (R-Ga.) cosponsored S. 215, the Death Tax Repeal Act of 2019, that seeks to permanently repeal the federal estate tax, also known as the death tax, which burdens Georgia’s hardworking families and farmers with taxes that make it difficult and expensive to pass their family businesses down to future generations.

“Growing up on a farm, I understand what goes into running a family business as well as the economic and sentimental value of passing down a family business from generation to generation,” said Loeffler. “This legislation strips away the unfair, costly federal death tax that makes that process difficult. Repealing this tax will enable Georgian farmers and family business owners to focus on healing in the wake of a family member’s death, rather than worrying about how they will maintain their farm, ranch or business and afford this onerous tax.”
