Loeffler Announces Nearly $300 Million for MARTA
Will Help Maintain Equipment and Vehicles, Support Operational Expenses
WASHINGTON, DC – U.S. Senator Kelly Loeffler (R-Ga.) announced the Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority (MARTA) will receive $298,641,024 in Federal Transit Administration (FTA) funds.
The funding, which was awarded through the Coronavirus Aid, Recovery and Economic Stability (CARES) Act, will help maintain equipment and revenue vehicles as well as support operational expenses such as bus and rail transportation, customer service, safety services, safety equipment, service scheduling and managing parking facilities.
“Public transit in a major metropolitan area like Atlanta is a critical component of the city’s infrastructure that thousands rely on every day,” Loeffler said. “As Georgia works to recover economically from COVID-19, public transportation and reliable infrastructure are imperative to ensuring Georgians can safely and efficiently get their livelihoods back. This funding will bolster Atlanta’s public transportation at a crucial time and help reignite our economy.”
