Loeffler Announces $500,000 Grant for Atlanta Nonprofit Wellspring Living
Funding Supports Housing Assistance, Recovery Resources for Victims of Human Trafficking
WASHINGTON, DC – U.S. Senator Kelly Loeffler (R-Ga.) announced that Wellspring Living, an Atlanta-based nonprofit organization that serves victims of domestic human trafficking, has received a $500,000 grant provided by the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ).
This funding will provide housing assistance such as rent or utilities to victims of human trafficking, as well as help victims find permanent housing, enter the workforce and gain access to training or counseling. In January, Senior Adviser to the President Ivanka Trump, Governor Brian Kemp, First Lady Marty Kemp and Secretary of Health and Human Services Alex Azar toured Wellspring Living as part of the administration’s push to end human trafficking.
“Human trafficking is an atrocity that is all too common in this country,” said Loeffler. “As we work to combat human trafficking in Georgia, Wellspring Living is a bright spot that provides housing and support to women and youth who have experienced the unspeakable horrors of this heinous crime. Wellspring Living is doing tremendous work to empower victims to recover and rebuild their lives in a stable and caring environment. This grant will help continue the tireless work of Wellspring Living, and I commend the Trump administration, Ivanka and Marty Kemp for their efforts to help victims and put an end to this modern-day slavery.”
On August 4, U.S. Attorney General William Barr and Ivanka Trump announced a total of $35 million in grants to organizations, including Wellspring Living, providing housing for human trafficking survivors. The DOJ funding comes from the Office for Victims of Crimes within the Office of Justice Programs. Wellspring Living is one of the 20 organizations Loeffler has donated her Senate salary to since entering office.
